Medical marijuana dispensaries can now be established across Lake County after officials took no action by the deadline to renew a one-year moratorium on dispensaries.
None of the county commissioners chose to make a motion for extending the moratorium at a meeting Wednesday, clearing the way for dispensaries to be established across Lake County, The Herald and News reports.
Recent public hearings have drawn an overwhelming amount of support from people who spoke in favor of allowing the sale of medical marijuana.
But Lake County legal counsel Jim Bailey says voters could still get a measure banning dispensaries on the November 2016 ballot if they choose to do so.
The moratorium expiration excludes the communities of Lakeview and Paisley, where the town councils have regulative authority.
