Later today, the Spokane City Council is expected to approve an ordinance that allows retail collective gardens in the city and regulates where they can be located.

In February, the City Council approved a six-month moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. The new ordinance will effectively lift that moratorium and allow for collectives to be located in the business area with at least a 1,000 foot buffer from schools and other medical cannabis collectives.

"This ordinance is the result of months of hard work and unprecedented collaboration between medical cannabis advocates and the City of Spokane," said Sean Green, owner of one of Spokane's collective gardens, Pacific Northwest Medical. "It could literally serve as a model for other cities in Washington."

The city is expected to adopt zoning regulation for upcoming recreational marijuana facilities in the near future.
