Starting seeds in peat pellets question

I am new to growing and have a few questions about this spring. This will be my first crop and quite honestly, would much rather learn from other peoples mistakes rather than my own. I will be growing outdoors and was wondering if it is a good idea to start my seeds indoors in peat pellets. What would be the pros and cons of this? I will be using just some unknown seeds from good buds, and growing in the midwest.
Any help would be appreciated.

My seeds in peat pellets held the water too good and had lousy results, but in soil I get close to 100 % germination rates. Used Roots Organic soil and the moisture stays just right and the mild nutrients in the soil help. Same results in cloning, I used grow cubes and compared just rooting in soil ( Roots Organic ) and had best results with soil.

I use peat pellets and the little trays with the humidity dome. No problems as all. I like them. Quick, easy, and takes up very little space to start many at one time.
