Medical marijuana supporters rallied at the Statehouse Saturday.

Topeka City Councilman Andrew Gray was among those promoting medical cannibis for patients who have a prescription from their physician.

He, and supporters say an estimated 30,000 Kansas medical patients could benefit from the drug.

They say the rally was to inform Kansans on the status of current bills, and to encourage Kansans to communicate support of the Cannibis Compassion and Care Act to their representatives.

Gray says he sees practical benefits to legalizing the drug.

Opponents of medical marijuana say the drug is dangerous and that people could fake ailments, and that legalizing it could open the door to a larger drug problem.
