Providence, RI - Lawmakers are hearing bills this week that would allow the medical use of marijuana.

The bills would protect patients with debilitating medical conditions from arrest and prosecution if they used marijuana for medical purposes. The bills would also protect those patients' physicians and primary care givers.

The House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare is hearing a medical marijuana bill today.

Tomorrow, the Senate version of the bill is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
