Vallejo Sues Marijuana Dispensary, Alleging It's Operating Illegally Under Zoning

Vallejo sued Stan the Man's Cooperative on Wednesday, alleging it is illegally operating a marijuana dispensary within city limits.

The business, at a former veterinary hospital at 1235 Warren Ave., is advertised on several medical cannabis websites.

Last year, Stan the Man representatives started, but did not complete, an application seeking the addition of medical marijuana businesses to zoning laws, city officials said.

Deputy City Attorney Alan Cohen said that the pending application "doesn't mean they get a pass" on illegal operation in the meantime.

"This isn't about medical marijuana," Cohen said. "It's a simple zoning issue."

The city's suit further alleges that business owner Stanley Eby misleadingly applied for a business license last July to operate an "organic natural herbs and vitamin sales" business.

In December, a Vallejo police officer who visited the site saw about 40 marijuana plants and reportedly told the manager that the operation was illegal.

The city is expected to seek a temporary injunction on Friday against the business operations while the lawsuit is going forward.

A man answering the phone at Stan the Man's Collective on Wednesday said no one was available to comment on the lawsuit.
