The Town Council on Monday will consider whether to enact a one-year moratorium on recreational marijuana sales in the town.

The idea is at the Palmer Planning Board's request.

The planning board, during a public hearing in July, said the board required additional time to establish proper measures to regulate the sale of recreational marijuana.

"The purpose of this moratorium is to allow the Town sufficient time to engage in a planning process to address the potential impacts of the State regulations including possible amendments to the Chapter 171 Zoning Ordinance regarding regulation of Temporary Moratorium on Recreational Marijuana Establishments and Marijuana Retailers and other uses related to the regulation of recreational marijuana," the board said in its public notice for the July 10 public hearing.

The council meets at the administration building, 4417 Main St., at 6:30 p.m.
