I think you have the right idea. Plants have a remarkable ability to adapt and I think the weight of a bud splitting a stem is much more likely than a bud trying to grow into the scrog wire. But I guess you are going to prove that theory as you grow.

You say that now, but growing is addictive. I grew outside in my younger years. Just plant and water and kill males. When I started experimenting indoors I was just seeing if some old seeds would sprout. Next thing you know I'm cloning, feminizing, cross breeding strains, mixing my own soil...

I only top twice early, I know people who won't top autos at all. Personally I prefer photperiod to auto, but I like experimenting and cross breeding.
