It should be fine as long as you keep it atleast 3' away.

Like stix said...3 feet away. After a couple weeks drop the light 6 inches or so. Then do it again thr next week. To determine the final light height put your hand on top of your plant palm down. Lower your light until you feel the light but it's not too unconfortable. Try to get it as close as possible without burning yourself. Do not pull your hand away too soon because it could build up heat after a few minutes. With a 400 I'd say between 12 and 16 inches for a final height but circumstances are different for every grow. My 1000watt HPS sits 4 inches above my plants but it's air cooled too.

Yeah I am able to get my 600HPS about 6 to 8" above mine with temps at plant level of about 75, I am also air cooled.

Should be fine i use a 600hps and my baby are bushy as hell they love the heat and wormth of the light just keep the light far enough away that u dont burn them and keep it circulated with fresh air
