Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

For this device its designed to be hung off slightly to the side, not under direct light for 99% of the time, it would mess with the other sensors they reckon. Just the 1% or actually way less of the time when you turn it horizontal for a light reading to be taken.

Here go - the orange device with the dot which is the quantum/light sensor where it lives. When I take a light reading just unplug the power cable and hold it out somewhere around the middle of the tent. Where it is there because of the corner to corner airflow I know it reads a little warmer and little wetter than in the middle of the tent. There’s another Mars Hydro sensor does Temp and Rh in the middle of the tent. So they average out as I would expect. VPD will be consistent.

Some plant pictures. OK pretty. So so small. The Dutch Pro Silica won’t be bought again when it runs out. Really floppy plants. Bit easier to move around though I guess! Small wins!

Skywalker Closet Plant
Day 75

I took a bit more this morning. Here’s a shot of what’s left and what’s been taken. What’s taken is washed and hung. For the record, Skywalker is by far the easiest trim, both initial and final, that there is. It’s so lightning fast I can’t imagine a quicker and easier plant.

Damn Nick, dropping bombs everywhere. Well, there’s a Taj in Atlantic City, only an hour from Philly. I’m beyond game. As you might expect, when I play I win. Blackjack. I know the game intimately. Let’s go. Hell, by the time we get to the game it’s not even gonna be the highlight anymore, lol. Yes, who hasn’t seen Rounders? Great flick! Poor Ed Norton. Lol. He’s my man. Sold me forever with the Fight Club performance. As far as your break, yeah, only mine will be amidst a grow. Heh. I have my 30th Anniversary mountain gig on Labor Day weekend then you guys I hope, that’s time when I actually call in the help. Lol. But it’ll effectively be a break, I don’t need a month. I really hope this all works out. Lemme know if we are going to “officially” blow off the competition part, cuz if so, I have zero issues with that, but then I’ll move the two organics out of the tent and into the closet. Haha, but really. Every time I’ve tried to go there you say no, wait, it’s not over yet, or whatever ( ), so I need an Official Word.

I was looking more closely at this Cherry Pie. This plant is absolutely stunning. She’s healthy as an ox, her green is still amazing even this late, and she hasn’t had a lick of anything from me except EWC, water, and occasionally a hit of RGR/kelp/mackerel. This is all the Cali Super Soil. It’s real good. Plenty enough elements to support a ‘crobe colony and big plant for an entire grow cycle. Destroys Sohum, the only other “complete organic” bagged soil I’ve used. The yield on this and the Skywalker, for only being in 3-gallon pots, is gonna be great. I’ll use it again, for my next grow of semi organic photos, as my long term “real” soil mix percolates for the months of that grow. Then I can take the “semi” out of my description of my organics. Lmao. Note that the leaves are beginning to turn reddish purple, beginning on their tips. The phenotype, I *think*, is a different one than the last Cherry Pie. It appears this one is more a hybrid pheno than a straight indica. Or, it may be the same one and the buds are just more elongated because I trained her to far fewer colas than the last one. Not sure. Anyway, she’s purty.

Phew. I did not expect this level of yield. It can only be due to growing her in a 10. Never did more than a 7 with autos til this grow. Next time I’m trying a Watermelon Wedding Cake or two in a 15! This Skywalker has more than filled this 10 with roots. In only 75 days and she’s been filled for weeks. Crazy. Who knew?

Hey @Scottay - thanks - imo the top of that list is always the Watermelon Wedding Cake XXL from Growers Choice. I just ordered five more seeds this morning of it. I’ve grown it several times and several different ways, and it’s easy, foolproof almost, pretty heavy feeder, medium to highish leaf volume, awesome internodal spacing, tons of side branching, and amazing, super frosty, extremely tasty, and pretty potent (28% ish) buds. It’s a massive yielder. It set my current record for jarred buds from one auto at almost 14 ounces. I don’t believe I’ve grown one yet that came in less than 10 ounces. Huge plants. I’ll be using a 15 gallon pot for mine this time. She gives 40-something days of veg, maybe more, and more than doubles in the stretch, which is a crazy thing to behold. Flower varies, but it’s been between 100-120 days overall if memory serves. Don’t think I’ve had one finish much below 100 days. To a man, all my musician buddies agree that it’s the best bud to play on, as it’s highly creative but very controlled, and has a great hybrid balance where you’re never couchlocked and never too sativa/wired.

I don’t have a stake in the strain, lmao. It’s just really that good, and I have stated in the past that it’s the closest auto to a guarantee I’ve found yet. I train it usually by topping above node four or five and spreading out the branches and then choosing which of the tons of side branches to keep or not to fill it in.

Since you asked…lol. I will say also that the Gorilla Cookies, which I included on the list because I can already see these two I have belong there, appears that it may also be in this vein. Certainly a faster finisher too. The one I have in the 10 of coco is likely a 12-14 ounce plant.

Here she be. If you blow this picture up you can see how big and chunky these buds are. This is amazing yield for Skywalker. I’m guessing she’s a bit over 8 ounces dried. We’ll see soon enough.

That aside - tent growing to flower makes very little sense for our setup / I need to have all the many many balls in the air in my life in tune to dedicate my 100% full attention.

But we're actually not chasing yield so much now. There’s other more interesting things I want to explore.

And I have to book flights to the US for later in the year to settle this wager!

Has anyone ever see the movie Rounders, Matt Damon, Ed Norton, John Malkovich? Its about poker. There’s scene when Damon’s gone bust. He’s driving some convenience store delivery truck delivering dunno, like groceries, late at night, early mornings to pay his way through law school.

He’s out the game, he says:

I want find some similar looking store, rent the exact same type of truck (like an old school UPS thing) and drive us to the Taj. Next day we’ll go see what Philly looks like, (we’ll grab a decent vehicle, Mustang, Navigator whatever, and watch a ball gane with Jon and who ever else fancies it.

But I need a little break between now and then from journals. Last Dance is my riposte. I don’t need to be competitive with Jon, he’s my mste. And I inly got so much energy for the myriad problems I get paid and not to fix.

Here’s what’s in it @Azimuth. Interesting - I have two soil mix ingredient lists, one is from @Gee64 and the other is from my Yoda. Both lists contain almost the exact ingredients in this CSS. And they say it’s 800x hotter than normal potting soil, boy they mean it. All you use is 1/3 of your pot size in the bottom. Then top with 2/3 of a “normal” soil mix (I used FFOF, bokashi, frass, EWC, and just a touch of GeoFlora veg nutes). I guess the point of that is that the roots and plant are a bit more established before she starts feeding from the bottom where the hot ‘crobes live? Anywho, I really like it and will use it for the one grow (next one) for the organics, as my “real” soil percolates.
