A 30-YEAR-OLD Kilsyth man will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court today after police caught him tending to his cannabis plants last night.

Police went to the Margaret Street residence on a separate matter about 9pm but instead found more than 250 cannabis plants.

"When police went to the residence on a separate matter they found a man in a room tending to his plants," Victoria police spokeswomen Marika Fengler said.

"He was arrested and taken to the Box Hill police station where he was interviewed and charged," Ms Fengler said.

The man was remanded in custody overnight and has been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a drug of dependence, theft of electricity and other related charges.
