DramaMonkey’s First Grow: Power Plant

Hey guys!

I thought I’d give an update since I’m almost through my last week of Veg!

The plants have been doing really well! Today I watered Martha and fed Mary (they’re on different schedules).

I need a little friendly advice.

If the plants continue the same pattern they have been the past two weeks (watering/feeding every 3 days), then the next time I water will be the first day of flower. I am following the FoxFarm feeding schedule, which says to feed twice a week and I have been doing every other watering, which ends up being almost two feedings a week. So, the next time I feed/water my plants, should I follow the schedule for flower, since it will be my first day of flower? I know the schedule mentions using the Sledge Hammer Flush in between veg and flower, should I use this the next time I water, even though it’ll be the first day of flower? A little more insight on this would be very helpful. Thanks for tuning into my journey for the day! Enjoy some pictures of the girls I took today during watering, below!

These plants mean so much more to me than satisfying my selfish desire of wanting to float in the clouds. They mean more than being able to say “I did it! I grew my own cannabis plant!” This journey came at a time when the lows were seemingly constant, and searching for ways to combat my inner saboteur was becoming more and more difficult. I always wanted to do this. I always wanted to have the achievement of growing a cannabis plant. I always wanted to enjoy the gift grown with the help of my hands and diligence. So I did. I delved into it, because then, I just needed something to put my time into. People can find means of therapeutic energy in almost anything. Growing these plants has been so nice and helpful, and I’m so glad to have embarked on this journey.

Enough with the sentiments, I’m boring myself. We’ve gotten to the end of week 8 of Veg. The end of Veg. Tomorrow, I will start my 12/12 light schedule, initiating the flowering stage. A few days ago, I trimmed back the girls one last time before going into flower, getting rid of unnecessary foliage, and small branches at the bottom of my plant that aren’t getting enough light. I chose to trim back one last time, because (please tell me if you disagree or if I am wrong in saying this) but once they start to flower, I’m going to want to stop trimming so that they can focus their energy on budding, rather than healing anything it may need to from being trimmed. Both plants are looking very healthy and strong, and from the pre-flowering sign, must be eager to switch over. That about sums up the rest of this week. Below, are a few pictures I took after trimming them back. Thanks for stopping by guys!

Hey guys!!

We are at the last day of week one of flower! This week was a challenging one for sure, and also a scary one! From the moment I switched the plants to flower, the humidity jumped, and I was at a loss for a second. I turned the fan all the way up, hoping this would add some circulation, but it just made the humidity increase even more. At this point, the lowest the humidity got was 54%, but it stayed at about 67%, getting almost as high as 74%. I bought a small dehumidifier, and put it in the room. Nothing. I added another fan, to make sure there was tons of air flow, so if I couldn’t make the humidity drop, I would just make sure the air flow was well enough for mold not to form. I even put in a few things of silica gel, but this also did nothing. I finally broke and ordered a 30pt dehumidifier ($180) but it would get here till Wednesday, almost the end of the first week of flower. Turning on the a/c helped, but not enough to justify that it is really expensive, and my fiancé and I were freezing in our home hahaha.

As I waited for the dehumidifier to arrive (it was Sunday at this point) I just kept an eye on the girls and continued to try to lower the humidity. I have noticed some more hairs growing from the node sites. They are also growing ALOT, which is super fun to watch. I continue to water them as the moisture level becomes dry throughout the pot. Besides the humidity levels, the plans are really strong and happy.

So, Tuesday comes around, and I’m noticing some more burn marks on some of the fan leaves. The lights are about 18 inches away at this point, so I lowered the plant to about 23 inches away from the light (from top of plant to light). Since then, the dehumidifier came in, and the 30pt dehumidifier is working WONDERS! It immediately dropped the humidity to around 40, and it’s staying around there. The only thing, is that it bumps the temp up, but not anything unmanageable. It is now Thursday, and I’m still noticing burn marks getting worse, and new ones appearing. At this point, I am unsure what to do. I want to make sure the plants are getting the proper amount of light, but I don’t want them to burn. If there is any advice someone could give me, I would appreciate it. Below, I’ve posted pictures from the first day of the week, to today! (Note, on the recent pics, you can see some burning on the canopy of the plant) Enjoy!

Ok get your lights back down to about 20
What are you using for water if it's not tap water or even if it is maybe get some Cal mag and ad in
I'm a dwc guy so I can't help to much but you are watching the right one emilya for the dirt advice for sure has me wanting to get dirty haha

Well guys, I guess all I can do is hope that the flower and plant gods bring some grace to my babies. After reading through some threads yesterday, I saw people posting pictures and their leaves looked very similar to mine (the ones that I figured were burns from my lights). After replying to some of these threads, I came up with either they have rust mildew, or a calcium deficiency. Calcium deficiency is what I initially thought after reading some things, it made sense because in all of the times of feeding, I hadn’t once used cal/mag, and my fertilizers do not have calcium. But the pictures of rust mildew looked more similar and it started to freak me out. I let it sit for a night, and after getting too anxious about my babies, I pruned Martha a lot (because a lot of her leaves seemed to be showing beginnings of what I thought was rust mildew) and Mary was pruned a bit, but not as much. Immediately after, I was able to console a friend about it, and she thought it was a deficiency, and then the reality set in that “I think I pruned my plants for no reason.” The plants are almost 2 full weeks into flower, and I know cutting leaves is something not to do in flower. So all I can do is hope and pray to the plant gods that they take pity on my babies, and that once I add some cal/mag, they will bounce back and thrive! Any advice, or hopefully comments. Maybe you’ve experienced this before or something similar, and your plants bounced back during flower?! Thanks guys, I appreciate it! Below are some pictures taken after the pruning and also some good lighted pictures of what the leaves look like.

Hey everyone!!

We are in week 3 of flowering, and I think things are looking pretty good! I don’t think the plants had any issues with mildew. I actually had a very cool interaction with this really nice, and new, friend last night and she happens to grow cannabis as well. It was really cool getting to talk to her because she had so much knowledge to share. Coincidentally, her specialty is pin pointing diseases with plants! So I shared my pictures with her and she believes that the issues my plants were/are experiencing are micronutrient issue! That being said, the girls are doing just fine after my big purge of leaves. I’ve been feeding with calmag every watering, to get them up to speed with that. After watering yesterday, I will only use calmag with every other watering with the other fertilizers. I’m still noticing minor discoloration and burning on some leaves, so I am going to look into some other micronutrient deficiencies, and maybe that will fully solve the issue! Martha has grown 5 inches since flowering started, and she continues to grow, and Mary is focusing her energy more in bud production. I have noticed on 2 tops, the pistil’s tips are turning a burnt orange color. Is this normal? I know the pistils change color as they flower, with the introduction of trichomes, but I feels a little early only being week 3? Just making sure it isn’t something else!

Thanks for tuning in! I’ll be better about updating throughout the week! Until then, below are some pictures!

Hey guys!!

We are in week 5 of flower!! Week 4 was a very busy week and I didn’t have many opportunities to come on and post since I last posted an update about the girls! I’ll start by summarizing week 4! In week 4 of flower, the buds are really starting to produce and get fatter, especially on Mary. SOME new growth had shown some signs of damage, the same that the plants have been experiencing for a bit now. I decided to only water, without nutrients for the week. I am noticing when I water that it takes a very long time for the water to drain. Is this normal? (Emilya put my mind to ease and mentioned it is normal) Quite a few of the pistils are turning orange; once again mainly on Mary. At the beginning of week 5, I went back to watering with nutes every other watering, following the FF schedule (I am excited to learn more about making my own nutes and doing truly organic for my next grow, but as my first, I am going to continue to allow FF to guide me along and not get over-zealous just yet). Watering continues to take a long time. I know my setup is not the most professional, as I added to it over time, rather than ensuring I had everything for the best grow. This being so, I do not have a proper way to water the girls in the closet, so I have to bring them into my bathroom every time I water. It gets good sunlight in there though, so I’m sure they love that. Overall, the girls look very happy. I am set to flush them my next watering, hoping this will be the thing to help completely fix whatever deficiency they may be dealing with. Every time I water, about 2-3 small leaves from the bottom of the plant will fall off, so I want to get them back on track and feeling the best they can! Thanks for tuning in, I’ll post some pictures from throughout the week. (Some more professional pics from my DSLR coming soon)

Are you still using that 300w light looks good real good don't worry about them lower leaves to much buds look health that's what we want
I was asking about your light cause I chickened out on the one I got and put mine under the hps

I have enjoyed reading through your journal. Hope you don't mind if I follow along until the harvest.

Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Of course you can stay along!! Right now I’m dealing with a flea infestation in our house so I’m figuring out a day to take them out and leave them out for a few hours so we can bomb our house.
