Foam for drainage?

I have ALOT of foam that is broken all the way down to the individual little balls. Could i mix this in my soil to help drainage? would it hurt anything?

never tried it, but i wouldn't think it would be your best choice.

I think I've seen it in a book somewhere, I'd say just make sure it's nice and clean before you use it and you'll be ok. I think people don't use it because it's so light weight that it starts floating when you water sometimes. Not the best choice IMHO but seems like a cost effective solution for drainage.

Perlite would work so much better....Styrofoam contains harmfull chemicals.

yeah i know perilite is better but i have a "no funds" system with this one........really sux too. I guess i just wanna know how to do it with the absolute lowest cost, like a control in an experiment.

It'll just end up at the top of the container. It floats really easily. Perlite does the same thing just not as fast.
