Looking to run 24 Luminus CXM22 3500k 90CRI at 75-80W each over a 4x8 table

As the title states I am interested in building this setup using 8- 3 light rails to cover the area. I have been doing research but am having trouble understaning. if anyone could take the time to tell me what i need to run this setup and what exactly i need to get this going in the next month
 
Have you watched gromau5's videos on YouTube. They should cover much of what you need to know. You may also want to check out @PurpleGunRack's thread "Build Your Own LED Grow Light." If you have specific questions after that, I'll be glad to help you out.
 
I been watching growmaus for awhile. I get some of the basics. Just not fully understanding the electrical side. I will check out the post you recommended. Thanks I’ll see what I can pick up with these led diy

Why specifically 3500K / 90 CRI @ 75-80w ?

Make sure you get Gen3 COBs !!!


You have a forward voltage of 48-55V and a max current of 2,2A.

I would do 8 COBs in parallel on a Mean Well HLG 600h-54A.
That would give you 53V * 1,4A = 74,2w DC per COB (77,2w AC)

Well personally I would run them softer and stay under 50w per COB :)
 
That is what gets me. Running them softer. Isn’t the point to get the highest wattage for the best gram/per watt? I am new to led been doing research and I under stand you

The more power you apply to LEDs, the lower their efficiacy or lumens/watt. If you look at the specs for manufactured lights, you will see things like 100 x 10W LEDs, but they only draw 100-200W from the wall. That light will often be advertised as 1000W.

Eight Cob Array Under Construction

It should max out at 500W with the eight COBs. Heatsinks are 163mm dia. COBs are Citizen CLU48-1216s. with two Meanwell HLG-240 drivers. The COBs are on 30cm (≈ 12") centers. The array is for a 2' X 4' tent. It's way oversized so that I can evaluate the design. Chances are it will put out close to the same output of a 1000W HID.
 
That is nice. I have 32 sq feet to cover so four of them would work nicely. Did you build you own light rack. I have no access to a machine shop
 
I'm building the rack now. No machine shop is required. I'm using a drill press, hacksaw, file, and a MAP torch. I'm using aluminum welding (brazing?) rods to put it together. This is just a test fitting of the parts.
 
And just got fun I'll throw in a build I did recently.....
I went back and forth on light choices for a while before I finally just went with one.

224 diodes per strip
3000k 80cri

Ok think I found the cob and also found brackets premade. I am going to run Vero 29 3000k 90 cri. 6 light rails contains 3 cobs each. Running at 75 watts what driver would you recommend I run.

To drive three of these 52V COBs in parallel you need about 4.4A. Use the Meanwell HLG-240H-54.
To drive three of these 52V COBs in series you need 156V @ 1400mA. Use the Meanwell HLG-240H-1400.
My preference would be running them in series.
The figures assume a 75W per COB load. Check this information with the vendor before you buy.
 
luminus are awesome, 500-700 PAR range is best for them without CO2 other then air ambient. i use just 4 of them at 1400ma, 75 watts like Salt said to do, and they rock. very well for a 3.5x3.5 area with a spacing of 14 inches apart.
 
well, i really cant say,because I didnt veg traditionally or have a full canopy to use gpw as a measure of success. I grow mostly 12-12 from seed, but in a 1 gallon container, 12-12 from seed, averaged 30 g per, which isnt to bad.

You want drivers you can dim so in veg you can change the PAR way down to less than 300. And in heavy flower you can go to at least 800 PAR . You only want to run the COBS at a maximum of half the COBS rated wattage . I don't know how to match the drivers even though I'm a technician. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel and didn't want to bother, so I just bought a finished product. I wish I could tell you the brand but I can't on this forum. It rimes with IGROW.
