Martok's First Grow: 30 Mystery Seeds Grow Journal, Fall 2020

On Sunday, got some advice on supercropping and so I gave it a try on all my plants. Only one snapped top but I learned a ton doing it. The benefit was even more apparent on my plants that are just a few days into flowering. I've learned since I was looking at nutrient burn so I've given them a break and will lighten up on them going forward.

Was very excited to see how they turned back up the next day. Very cool.

Auto keeps getting a little fatter, I'm dying to smoke my first grown buds. Pic looked better on my phone, I'll get some better ones of the buds tomorrow.

Rest of this tent is now in 12/12 since Saturday night. I move the auto out and stick under 30W LED for the another 6 hours to get a full 18/6 still.

A few pics of the little Auto so far. Maybe a couple weeks until I can harvest it? Will the buds keep getting bigger, or have they likely reached their size?

They will still pack on more density. Plus early harvest typically means - speedy buzz for 10 minutes followed by headache.

Way to go on super-crop -I love the way you take the initiative!! Here’s a few not all inclusive but working wet dry cycle, upcan transplant, topping, fimming, not topping, training, mainline or manifold, quadline, supercrop, moster cropped clones, staggered harvest, reveg all useful tools... maybe read up on back-building too, should be able to search here for more info on the technique.

Not saying you should do back-building on those autos but general toolkit of growers tools was theme here.

staggered harvest may be beneficial... search on my name & staggered harvest for some basic info... nothing ground breaking - but may help you.

Thanks 013! Checked out a bunch of these this week. The auto was topped once early on, but if I could go back in time I def would have done a bit more. Staying patient! It should be an excellent tease until the rest of the crop is ready. Looking into staggered harvest today!q

So far so good but I noticed a few abnormalities in some of the leaves. Any thoughts? Hoping it’s not some kind of root problems. They got water yesterday without nutrients. Temps with lights on average about 75-78F, humidity typically under 50%, but peaks around 55% occasionally.

So I tested the ph of the soil from two of the plants and found about 6.5-6.8. Until my digital reader comes in the mail I can’t get more precise.

Hey on pics # 3 and 4 I saw something funky.... is that the shiny tent in the back drop or is there white powdery stuff on the leaves? If white powdery.... have you spilled anything? Kinda looks like pm, hope it’s not though. Might need to improve airflow, might need to trim or defol.
Yes, it’s blurry, but that’s the shiny bottom of the tent, 99.99% sure. I haven’t found any sign of white powder or growth on leaves so far, but I’ll give a once-over when lights come back on. To help airflow I have a small usb fan on the floor inside pushing air around opposite side from the intake vent, with another clip fan above the lights pushing air up to the exhaust fan. Still don’t have that negative pressure though like my other tent with the 6” fan, but humidity has been pretty steady around 45%. I’ve been super nervous to defoliate lol

60-63 days from seed.

More pics of the auto, seeing a little brown in the white hairs.

The 3x3 tent has now had 4 weeks+ in 12/12. Buds getting started and looking good, still concerned about yellow leaves in earlier posts...nitrogen deficiency?

The 4x4 tent has been in 12/12 10 days, 3/4 are def female , the other male.

Good on the tent reflection - whew, when I saw that it freaked me out.

I see the leaf discoloration, just reread your entry and noticed you don’t have a cal-mag product listed. Your base nutes gets the NPK but this crop has higher needs for calcium & magnesium than other plant types. I’d get some cal-mag in them pretty quick and you can add it to your regular NPK routine, but as you advance in flower you need less N but higher PK.

Okay cool, I had come across that in my reading recently and got my cal-mag about 10 days ago, so I thankfully had it on hand. That was right around the slight nute burn so I was waiting before adding it to the water. Went ahead and gave them some today for the first time.

CalMag I’m using:
Botanicare HGC732110 Cal-Mag Plus, A Calcium, Magnesium, And Iron Plant Supplement, Corrects Common Plant Deficiencies, Add To Water Or Use As A Spray, 2-0-0 NPK, Quart

My larger plants in the 4x4 got cal mag their past watering for the first time, about 4 days ago. Coincidence or not, they seemed to fill out more the following days.

And thank you @013 for all the guidance so far!

Oh and about the NItrogen: my grow nutrients were 7-4-10 and my bloom nutrients are 4-8-7. Should I consider less nitrogen, since the cal mag is 2-0-0? I see some bloom nutrients online with 0-5-6.

We’re 3 days into Week 5 of flowering. After getting some cal-may and light nutrients in them Tuesday, the yellowing appears to have stopped and they generally look healthier. Making sure pH is correct after mixing nutrients and cal-mag.

The other tent is 5 days Into Week 2 of flowering. I replaced the male plant with the small window plant I had going.

The single auto is getting close to harvest. More hairs are brown everyday on the biggest buds so keeping my eye on them and the trichomes. I’d like to let some of them get a little amber.

Awesome, I'll check this out. I'm 100% planning to cure, I would hate to come this far and not enjoy my smoke. The buds these seeds came from were rough. I want to really see how much better of a smoke I can get than what my mother is buying. I've got a case of quart mason jars ready to go!

Hey what’s up big guy?

Nice bends and elbows, they are packing on weight. Hey - My pleasure! I like the way you think ahead on this, you’ve got great instincts. The part about lowering N on the NPK side to make way for the N that’s in cal-mag... shows you’ve been studying up. Now that you mention it there is one brand / blend of cal-mag that is zero on the N, too bad I’m a stoner and forgot to mention that part until now. But you’ve got a fine work around planned. Yeah man - you’ve got this nailed - just keep her between the ditches!

I’d recommend bud washing plus the low and slow fridge curing, combined it will beat the pants off most anything your crew has ever smoked...

I don’t do the baking soda & lemon juice version of bud washing, for mine it’s just 3 buckets lukewarm tap water, not too hot, not too cold... Bear in mind the lemon juice & baking soda version is how professional chefs wash veggies. I mention the last one as a remedy, say you have heavy critters, maybe bud rot or powdery mold at harvest, there is a version where you use hydrogen peroxide mix in first bucket to clean up the funk. Anyway thought you should know & tuck that one away just in case.
