Multiple 1000W LEDs vs a single 4000W board in a 5x5

looking at the spider farmer brand , the sf 4000 is basically 4 sf 1000 on a single plate packed close together.
4 single 1000w we could get more control over lighting conditions and also a more even ppfd across the canopy.
my thinking is with 4 1000w spaced out we should have less light fall off at the edges and not too intensity light in the middle as with the 4000w which goes up to 2000 ppfd in the center which is way over what is needed.
lights could be at different heights to suite different areas of the tent/grow area.
also if on a budget lights could be purchased in stages, 1 for seedlings, 2 for veg 4 for flower.

what are your thoughts and has any one been down this road.

The biggest benefit of the 4 separate lights is the individual height. If your growing 4 plants each light can be set to each individual height, where as the large board is 1 level height
