It seems that SB 2450 SD 1 the bill that would decriminalize the possession of one ounce of marijuana, and make it punishable by a fine (currently proposed at $300 for the first offence) still has a small chance of getting a hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee.

We want to encourage the two Big Island members of the Committee to ask Chair Karamatsu to schedule a hearing.

Please call these Representatives on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and ask that they schedule a hearing for SB 2450. Remind them that Big Island voters passed the Lowest Law Enforcement Priority of Cannabis Ordinance in 2008, and that we want changes to our drug laws, at both the local and state levels.

Hopefully, enough Big Island residents will make calls this coming week...calls to Chair Karamatsu are okay too, but the members of the Judiciary Committee are the ones to focus on during these last 3 days...
