Power Usage? - Stupid question

I'm sorry, this seems self explanatory, but I thought maybe I am missing something.

I currently use 3x125 watt CFL grow lights, they produce 30k lumens.
I am thinking of switching to 1x250 watt HPS, which would also produce 30k lumens.
My grow space is 20"x36"x5.5'

It seems like obviously the 375 watts of CFL lighting would take up more power than the single 250 watt HPS. But then there are other factors like amperage, etc.

Am I right in thinking the 250 watt will draw less power?

Thanks.

Hello Necron99 I think for a start you would be better off with a single 250w hps as it will be able to penetrate better also in a small place you can get a air cooled hood and run your extractor fan through it if temps become a problem I'm not too sure about exactly how much less power you will be using but getting a digital ballast over a magnetic one will draw less electricity.

Basically I think you should make the switch. hope this helps.

DrTentgrow & DrOfDank,

I guess the 'doctors' are in :) Thanks for the input guys. It's a no-brainer. I'll be upgrading to the 250 HPS this weekend.

Thanks.
