Out on bond while awaiting trial on a felony charge, a Speedwell man is in jail again after police said they found 16 marijuana plants growing behind an outbuilding at his residence.

Donald Edward Hale, 56, was arrested on Aug. 28 and charged with manufacturing marijuana not for his own use and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

In a search warrant application, Wythe County Sheriff's Office Cpl. D.M. Meredith said that officers in a Virginia State Police helicopter combing the area for marijuana plants on Aug. 28 noticed some plants growing at Hale's 145 Camillia Lane residence.

After searching the property, officers collected the plants, a digital scale, a cell phone, a metal bowl from a glass smoking device, a Frisbee with green plant material, green plant material and a .38-caliber revolver.

Listed as disabled in court documents, Hale is being held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin.

Arrested in July, he was already out on bond after being accused of threatening to bomb or burn and assault by Anthony E. Ingram.

His preliminary hearing on those charges is set for Sept. 7.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 5 on the new charges and has a Nov. 30 hearing set in Wythe County General District Court.
