Topping off a little will help for other reasons.
if you really want to change the soil you need to soak it. Put it inside of a trash can and fill the water around it not through it. Not watering the plant, soaking it, and then when it is good and wet you can bang it around to loosen up the soil. So fill the can so the water is above the soil and let it soak in good and then loosen the soil.
You of course wait til it is good and dry first, and then let it dry out afterwards. None of that, when done correctly, is harmful to do during bloom. It becomes more difficult the bigger the plant gets.
