Wow, this is a tough one to call. PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse – they are both so good. They are good for different reasons too, which makes them more interesting to compare. So, are you a Grizzly Originals fan or a PAX vaporizer fan? No preference? Want to know more? Stick with it, a full comparison is on the way.

Grizzly Eclipse Overview

A dual use vaporizer for dry herbs, waxes or concentrates, this portable vape has a glass airpath, a wide range of atomizers and mouthpieces that allow for customization and personalization. If you are interested in lots of different products and how to vape them, or simply like a very capable yet portable vaporizer, the Grizzly Eclipse is the one for you.

PAX 3 Overview

The PAX 3 is a dual use vape, like the Eclipse, but with a bigger chamber and an incredible 15 second heat up time; it gives 4 temperature levels, heats via conduction and has a 10-year warranty. It has a silicone mouthpiece and is constructed from stainless steel. It is small, stylish, not immediately obvious that it is a vape, and it’s super discreet.

They are very similar. They do basically the same things, so it is difficult to tell them apart at this stage, (well, obviously they look different), so a little more in-depth analysis is required in this PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse review.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse: Batteries
Charges via USB in 90 minutes via the special PAX charger and in 2½ hours with conventional USB. It will give about 10 sessions from a full charge.
Grizzly Eclipse
Charges in about 4 hours the first time, between 2 and 3 for the rest of the time. The battery is a removable 18650, easily available at many supermarkets and easily swapped out for lightning fast vaping sessions. Lasts about 12 sessions. Charges via USB.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse Build Quality and Materials
The PAX 3 is very well made. The body is made from brushed aluminium, the chamber is stainless steel and the mouthpiece is silicone. They are all put together very well, all seams are tight and the device itself feels very sturdy while being lightweight. It is simple but effective.
Grizzly Eclipse
The Grizzly can come across as being slightly tacky. The borosilicate glass mouthpiece feels great, but the metal and rubber body feels a little like it is a toy, not a proper vaping machine. The feel of it might not seem to be great, but there are lots of reviews from people who have used the device for a long time and not reported any problems with build.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse: Temperature
The PAX 3 can be set to 4 different levels, from 182°C to 215°C, a decent range. There are 60 temperatures to choose from, so you can fully customise this very simple but powerful beast. It heats up in 15 seconds or less, one of the best times of any portable vaporizer on the market at the moment. This makes the PAX 3 hard to beat for the price. The temperature is controlled from one button. Further adjustments and settings are accessible from an app.
Grizzly Eclipse
This device heats up in about 20 seconds and has the curious yet effective feature of adjusting its own temperature according to what vape tank you have attached. This means 195°C for the dry herb tank and 176°C for the concentrates. This could be limiting and frustrating for the connoisseur but just the thing for someone who dislikes the hassle of dealing with different temperature settings, and ideal for beginners. The voltage levels are controllable, not the temperature directly, which after a little experimentation can work very well.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse: Versatility
The PAX 3 uses conduction heating to make the vapour, which is standard for small, portable devices like this. By adding the concentrates insert, (only available separately or with the “complete” kit), the dry herb chamber can be converted into a very capable wax/shatter/dab/oil chamber that gives excellent results. Some dual-use vaporizers are no good because they do neither one well: this one does both brilliantly.
Added to this is a choice of mouthpieces, (in the “complete” kit), and a “half-pack” oven for easy draw and small samples. Customizable via the PAX Vapor app (Android, iOS and Bluetooth); the temperatures and other settings can be changed via your smartphone.
Grizzly Eclipse
Where the Eclipse really stands out is the versatility of the gear. This could be too complicated for some as there are quite a few different options available, but as you just screw the insert you want on and get vaping it really couldn’t be easier to have more choice. There are 3 different mouthpieces available, long, medium, and short. Each gives a different vaping experience, with the longest being the coolest and the shortest being the harder hit. Vaping is a very personal thing, so by giving users a choice like this they are gaining a lot of fans.
The dual coil wax atomizer can be replaced with the herb atomizer very easily for a change-about session and enjoying different types of vaping in a short period of time.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse: Vapour
The crucial factor: vapour quality. The PAX 3 gives a good, thick and tasty vape. The 60 different vaping temperatures available mean the user can customize to their heart’s content and get the right vaping combination for them and their dry herb. Every batch is different, so the versatility this offers is highly commended. There are no weird metallic flavours, even at the higher temperature settings, and the dry herbs all seem to vape evenly. When used with concentrates, the results are similar. The vape is thick and tasty, without strange flavours creeping in or making things unpleasant. The hit is cool.
Grizzly Eclipse
Nothing beats a borosilicate glass airpath, and this is exactly what makes the hit from the Eclipse so darn cool and tasty. Glass is inert and does not react with the vapour, so it is as pure as can be. The pathway is fully isolated, so there are no strange chemicals getting in from the body. Both the wax and the dry herb chambers work well, but with only one temperature and a variety of voltages, the potential to vary your vaping experience is a bit lacking in here. Especially for longer sessions, having a greater range of temperatures is very useful to get the most out of your herbs or extract.

PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse: Value
The PAX 3 is roughly twice the price of the Grizzly Eclipse, but both present good value. The Eclipse falls down when it comes to build quality and temperature control but wins when it comes to add-ons and features; the PAX 3 wins in terms of vapour quality, construction quality and general ease of use. Both present good value, but for different reasons. If you are willing to splash out for the PAX 3, you get a 10 year (!) warranty, so it will pay itself off time and time again. For less initial outlay, you can get an Eclipse, which is unlikely to last more than a few years but will give great results all through that time.

So, PAX 3 vs Grizzly Eclipse? That, dear reader, is up to you. They are both good for different reasons.
