Where's Willie?

As most people have heard by now, Willie Nelson was busted again. But unlike busts in the past this time it had repercussions far beyond Willie's personal life. If the U.S. Border Patrol would have known what they were about to set in motion would they still have boarded Willie's bus? The Border Patrol and the Sierra Blanca Sheriff's that finally took Willie into custody might just turn out to be the best friends the pro-cannabis legalization movement has had in some time.

Shortly after the first stories of the bust started hitting the media the word spread like wildfire on the internet, and with his statement "There's the Tea Party, How about the Teapot Party" a movement was born. The question is was it stillborn? I hope not.

The hotspot of this wildfire was and remains facebook. Within a short time there was a 'Willie Nelson's Teapot Party' group on the popular social network that as of this writing can boast of a supporter base of 41,969. Soon local state groups started forming and now there are pages for all 50 states and international groups are starting to form.

But what many supporters of this young movement (myself among them) are asking themselves is, where is Willie. With the exception of his original remarks he has made no public statements concerning the movement that his words have spawned. Rumor has it that Willie is discussing the Teapot Party and what to do next with friends and advisors but for now we are left waiting.

With each passing day the posts seem to be slowing on the Teapot Party facebook pages and major media seems to be ignoring the movement for the most part.

If left without a leader, and at this point supporters are looking to Willie for that leadership, can this grassroots movement that seems so promising hope to mature into a force for change?

We're waiting Willie. Where are you?
