Very possible this could do the job - the true test is just to get a seed in there and see how it goes. I've heard some cons about coco coir so its possible that coco husk does a better job.

if you're overwatering then just lay off for a few days and slowly water back in - if this is a problem with the irrigation in your pot then you'll have to transplant for find a way to get the pot to drain better
