As of last night, 19 applications had been filed with the Arizona Department of Health Services for the 10 medical marijuana dispensary zones established in the greater Tucson area.

Today is the last day that prospective dispensary owners may file an application with the state to open a dispensary, health officials state.

In Southern Arizona, 36 applications have been submitted for the 26 Community Health Analysis Areas (CHAAs) in the region. Part of the law that legalized marijuana for medical purposes created a limit of one dispensary per CHAA, created by analyzing census data.

Statewide, 250 applications have been submitted for the 126 CHAAs. The CHAA with the most submitted applications was in Tempe, with 11.

Fully one-third of the CHAAs in Arizona, 42, received no medical marijuana dispensary applications whatsoever.
Applications will be accepted until the end of today - Friday, May 25, at 5 p.m. Dispensary certificates will be awarded 60 days after the ADHS began taking applications.
