Dear Friends,
Many of you have written to express your mixed emotions over the results of
our trial. We understand you are overjoyed with our win on behalf of the
Oakland Guidelines, but outraged over the two felony convictions against me.
Please be assured that we have a plan for dealing with the sentencing
hearing on February 2nd. We have just received word that this will be a
MUCH bigger media event than our trial, but I can't share any details right
now. All I can tell you is that on February 2nd, we will expose to national
media, the pathetic efforts of the Placer D.A. to convict a cancer patient
for felony possession of a mushroom stem and some tiny cactus buttons in a
35 mm film can.
In the meantime, please focus on the stunning victory in zero tolerance
Placer County, where 92% of our ultra-conservative jury voted to uphold the
Compassionate Use Act AND support the Oakland Guidelines of 144 plants per
patient. We urge you to write letters to you local paper and demand that
your police and prosecutors finally start obeying the law by adopting and
following the Oakland Guidelines.
On final note, please join us if you can for a demonstration at the Orange
County Sheriff's Office on December 28th, where we will be presenting a copy
of the Oakland Guidelines to Sheriff Mike Carona. Details to follow.
