Amature cabinet grower in need of advice

1. how can i tell if plant is male or female
2. how long should i leave my grow light on

3.how often should i water my plant

4. i composted my flower pot and there are verry few gnats will they hurt my plant

5. will haveing plant in confined aera stunt its growth

6. what is the best stuff to add to soil as a food source for my plant
