The agency said it is not now altering services or practice to prepare for the legalization of marijuana for medical use but will wait to see which, if any, measure passes in November.

A second ballot initiative, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment is in the process of having its signatures verified by the Arkansas Secretary of State's office for placement on the November ballot.

"Generally, we found that when a medical marijuana law went into effect, prescribing for FDA-approved prescription drugs under Medicare Part D fell substantially", investigators reported.

According to the release, ADH is not now altering services or practice to prepare for the legalization of marijuana for medical use. There are no scientific evaluations of the dosage and safety of marijuana varieties and preparations. A move to simply make marijuana legal in medical circumstances will not accomplish this.
The sponsors of the measures said Tuesday there were not concerned about the agency's comments. Instead, it would task Gov. Asa Hutchinson and legislators with appointing a commission to oversee medical marijuana regulation.

They concluded, "Our findings and existing clinical literature imply that patients respond to medical marijuana legislation as if there are clinical benefits to the drug, which adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting that the Schedule I status of marijuana is outdated".

Couch said it is time to act, not study, noting that veterans are committing suicide every day because of post-traumatic stress disorder.
