Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich on Tuesday directed Los Angeles County departments to enact a 45-day moratorium on the manufacturing, testing or cultivation of medical marijuana in the county's unincorporated areas while the effects of a ban are studied.
The county already forbids dispensing medical marijuana from storefront locations but does not have similar prohibitions in place for "the use of land for the cultivation, manufacture and laboratory testing of medical marijuana," according to Antonovich's office.
"For the county to make an informed determination whether to allow, regulate, or ban these activities, a study to determine the impacts of these activities on the county's unincorporated communities should be conducted," Antonovich said in a statement.
