Lemoore - The city of Lemoore wants to have an ordinance in place that would limit the use and cultivation of marijuana within city limits if Proposition 64, also known as the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, passes in November.

If passed by majority vote, Proposition 64 would allow adults ages 21 and older to legally possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana, up to 8 grams of concentrated cannabis and up to six marijuana plants. Currently, marijuana is permitted in California for medical use only, but remains illegal under federal law.

The Lemoore City Council had a study session on Sept. 6 during which council members discussed the potential passage of Proposition 64.

The council directed staff to bring back a city law that would restrict personal cultivation and provide specific requirements for growing marijuana for personal use.

The city law will be discussed at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The city's zoning and permitting ordinances would also need to be revised and will be considered later.
