Contemplating a relaxation of a temporary ban on medical marijuana dispensaries, the city council along with the planning commission debated whether to amend a prohibition set in place several years ago.

Currently, Brawley prohibits dispensaries, cultivation and delivery of medical marijuana, noted Gordon Gaste, planning commission director. That is why a temporary ban was adopted so to allow time to examine a more permanent solution. With passage of AB266, AB243 and SB643 last year in the state legislature, The Medical Marijuana Act was established. This provided the state with a mechanism to regulate use.
