The California Department of Justice's Campaign Against Marijuana Planting has found more marijuana plants this year than last and the job's not done.

As of Friday, 471,128 plants had been seized statewide, about 5,000 more than last year.

The campaign is scheduled to continue into the fall.

So far this year in Humboldt County, 13,500 plants have been found and destroyed. In 2003, 9,553 plants were found and destroyed in Humboldt County.

Last year the 466,054 plants destroyed statewide were found in 892 gardens. This year, only 583 gardens yielded the record-breaking crop.

There have also been 37 arrests, 14 more than 2003, and 56 weapons seized, six more than last year.

"To have reached this milestone so early is a tribute to all the hard work of law enforcement officers throughout the state," said CAMP Commander Val Jimenez in a press release.
