WHEELING - A report of a dog bite _ and subsequent threats to Ohio County Animal Control Officer Doug McCroskey - led Wheeling Police to find four baggies of marijuana in a Wheeling man's car Saturday afternoon.
At 4:44 p.m., officers were called to 94 Kenny St. for a report of an animal control officer needing assistance.

McCroskey had been called there to investigate a dog bite. He had found the owner of the dog, Joseph Hicks, 23, 108 Main St., Wheeling, and was attempting to write him a citation, according to the police report. Hicks allegedly became irate and used profanity toward McCroskey, prompting McCroskey to call for back-up. After this, Hicks allegedly threatened McCroskey's life if he called the police.

McCroskey told officers he saw Hicks place his hand in his right front pocket as if he were going for a weapon, and McCroskey started back for his vehicle.

The report states that Hicks continued to charge at McCroskey until Hicks finally fled in a green Buick Riviera.

Officers next caught up with Hicks and arrested him for battery.

Hick's car was left parked on Third Street, and it had expired temporary license registration. The vehicle was towed to Ace Garage, where a vehicle inventory was conducted.

According to the report, officers discovered in the car's center console four baggies containing marijuana, and also two unknown pills. The items were taken back to police headquarters and entered as evidence, the report stated.
