Forcing Sex on Trimmings

Hey yall,

I got a question from a friend in Washington the state.

He is growing a plant that he isnt sure what the sex is. Its alot bigger than the others so he is guessing its male.

He took a clipping about 2-3 nodes long and stuck it in small cup of water by itself and put it on 12/12.

Since it is only in water and he has only seen it done in rocwool will it still force the sex, or will it not work because its not in the correct median?

So no one has an anwser to this. I guess that I will find out in a week or so if it works?

I'm not an expert but i'd say if it lives in the cup and produces roots he can keep it alive long enough to show its hairs or bananas
