The Hayden Town Council on Thursday night will consider an emergency ordinance that temporarily will ban some activities related to the passage of Amendment 64, the constitutional amendment passed by Colorado voters in November that legalizes the recreational use of marijuana.
The ordinance being considered by Hayden officials would be in effect until Oct. 1. By that time, council members plan to have permanent rules in place that will help govern recreational marijuana businesses such as pot shops. The town also could choose to permanently ban pot shops or other businesses such as private clubs, where members can consume marijuana.
During a Feb. 21 meeting, town council members appeared supportive of the emergency ordinance because they wanted to ensure they had time to come up with their own rules.
The town council will meet from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall for reports from staff members. The regular meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.
Also at the meeting, the council members will consider appointing Tom Rogalski to the Economic Development Commission and Sandy Wells to the Parks and Recreation board.
