How high should a 1000wt MH be during Veg?

how high should i have my lights over the clones? tallest is 16 inchs
~the room is 3x3 grolab and its very reflective
~ the temp gets up to the hi 80's with the exhaust off: 74 w/ it on....what is more perferable????

Always do the hand test. If you can hold your hand under the light for a minute, your ok. Temps with lights are good 70-85 at most.
