Inside Cannabis Therapeutics in Colorado Springs

He's growing pot right in the middle of the city, legally. It might surprise you, but one of the state's largest medical marijuana distributors is in Colorado Springs.

But the owner of Cannabis Therapeutics did not want to get much more specific on the location due to security concerns for his facility and his patients. Owner Michael Lee calls himself a licensed caregiver and says he serves more than 1,600 patients around the state.

Lee didn't want to talk on camera but did take NEWSCHANNEL 13 on a tour of the multiple buildings that make up Cannabis Therapeutics. It's been in the city four and a half years. Lee says customers include teachers and lawyers, cancer patients and grandmothers.

It's a secure, locked location where patients bring in their medical paperwork and have to be certified. Lee says he's certified, too. Representatives from the DEA, EPA and local drug enforcement have toured the facility.

In the facility's lab, Lee and his team cook up anything you can think of: lotions, oils, teas, baked goods... all made with the locally, organically grown pot. One patient says trying different strains of marijuana, different doses, helps each person find exactly the right remedy.

He says he now takes only a fraction of the medication he was taking before becoming a patient here for a back injury. Lee grows the plants on site and in a massive greenhouse. He also sells growing supplies.

Lee says that's to help patients help themselves.
