AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – Medical marijuana caregivers from throughout Maine are forming a trade association.

An announcement is to be made Thursday in the State House in Augusta. It comes just over a year after Maine voters expanded a decade-old medical marijuana law.

The new law set the stage for a formal system for obtaining the drug and authorized one dispensary for each of the state's eight regional public health districts.

Jonathan Leavitt of Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine says the group is being formed to make sure caregivers have a voice when policy decisions are made. Leavitt says that since the spring, medical marijuana caregiver networks have generated 500 good jobs throughout Maine.
