The United States Attorney’s Office announced that Peter Ignatius Wishart pled guilty to charges involving the transportation of marijuana, and agreed to the forfeiture of $1,460,398 in drug proceeds.

According to statements made in court during the plea, on March 15, 2010, law enforcement in Phelps County pulled over a vehicle for committing a traffic violation while traveling westbound on Interstate 44.

Wishart was the only occupant and gave officers consent to search the vehicle. A narcotics dog examined the vehicle and alerted for the presence of narcotic order. A search of the vehicle trailer revealed $1,460,398 in a hidden compartment. Wishart admitted with his plea that the cash was for the purchase of marijuana.

Peter Ignatius Wishart, 36, Windsor, Conn., pled guilty to one felony count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel. Additionally, Wishart is now subject to a forfeiture allegation, which will require him to forfeit to the government all money derived from their illegal activity.

He now faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and/or fines up to $2,000,000 on the drug charge.

Sentencing has been set for April 1, 2011.
