Many Charged For Growing Marijuana

Several people were arrested in the region in the past week for growing marijuana, according to Vermont State Police.

Police cited Geoffrey Marchand, 41, of Charlotte, for a felony charge of cultivation of marijuana. On Sept. 8 police executed a search warrant at Marchand's One Mile Road residence in which they seized 10 fully mature marijuana plants and additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to a report.

According to police, the street value of the recovered marijuana is approximately $11,000.

Marchand was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in Burlington Nov. 13 to answer the charge.

In South Hero, state police cited Fred Dubuque, 50, of South Hero, for felony cultivation of marijuana, and Richard Wickens, 41, for cultivation of marijuana.

On Sept. 4 police executed a search warrant at Dubuque's residence and seized 31 marijuana plants, ranging in size from 4 feet to 8 feet tall. Dubuque was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in North Hero to answer the charge.

State police cited Wickens for cultivation of marijuana after police discovered "several marijuana plants that were being cultivated behind an outbuilding near his home," police said.

Wickens was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in North Hero Nov. 1 to answer the charge.

In Brookfield, police cited North Thomson, 45, of Eagle Peak Road for felony cultivation of marijuana.

Police said they began an investigation into the Thomson residence on Aug. 24 and discovered cultivation on the property.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence, during which, police said, they found 26 mature plants, approximately 60 immature plants and several pounds of processed marijuana, all of which was seized.

Thomson was cited to appear in Vermont District Court in Chelsea Oct. 24 to answer the charge.
