Despite lingering ambiguity from the feds and the Washington State Patrol's continued pot growing eradication program, the state liquor board has announced a timeline for implementing our new marijuana law.

Last night, the Washington State Liquor Control Board announced its tentative timeline for implementing I-502, which not only legalized possession of up to an ounce of pot but also required the state to figure out how to grow, distribute, sell and tax marijuana.

Part of the plan for implementing the new industry here is to get your input. The first public hearing will be in Olympia the evening of Jan. 22. The board said it will be announcing the rest of the series of evening public forums later today (we'll update) at which you can:

  • Meet certain board staff involved in implementation
  • Get an update on implementation
  • Provide input (testimony) to the board about things you believe are important for the board to consider as it develops rules.

The hearings begin at 6 p.m. Public testimony will begin at 7:15 p.m.
