People interested in getting involved in the medical marijuana industry had the chance to attend a university lecture this weekend put on by the Greenway University, reports CBS station KCNC-TV.

"What this industry was lacking was a good source -- a valid source -- of credible information," Founder Gus Escamilla said. "We want to be the industry leader. Colorado is our hub."

The university was founded last year and strives to streamline the medical marijuana industry by educating interested students on all aspects of the industry, emphasizing compliance with regulations that have been put in place, and encouraging solid, respectable and professional businesses that will ultimately contribute to their communities by being part of the tax base.

"We have to be willing to adapt and adjust to change," Escamilla said. "We really have to give it up to so many of the legislators who have taken this under their wing and done so much for us. So first and foremost, let's acknowledge legislators and let's thank them for even having this opportunity."

Currently, the university offers classes online and through lectures or seminars. The goal is to open a facility where students can attend classes.
