22News was the first television station with an exclusive look inside the only medical marijuana dispensary scheduled to open in western Massachusetts.
New England Treatment Access says they are on schedule to open their Conz Street facility on or around September 15th.
Before you get to the store, you need to check in with a security guard who makes sure you are signed up with the state.
The marijuana will be displayed in cases inside the store, weighed on scales, and sold from terminals that track every ounce of marijuana from seed to sale.
“This is hooked up to our inventory control tracking system which will allow NETA and the Department of Public Health to keep close tabs on everything that happens here,” said Norton Arbelaez of New England Treatment Access.
At New England Treatment Access, it isn’t just about smoking medical marijuana. There’s a variety of other products available. Everything from vaporizers and edibles, to infused water.
Nothing will be grown at the Conz Street facility. Cultivation happens in Franklin, Massachusetts.
“We grow 100% of what we are going to sell at the store. We are in process of harvesting, processing, curing, packaging, and then finally delivering the product to Northampton during the second of third week of September,” said Arbelaez.
The facility will have computer terminals for researching medical marijuana, and private consultation rooms.
There is 24/7 video surveillance, motion and shock detectors, and a security guard.
NETA is still interviewing potential employees, including Connor Grogan of Northampton.
“I’m excited about having a dispensary open up in our community. I think it will help people to re-imagine what medicine can mean and look like. It has lots of potentially powerful and trans formative properties,” said Grogan.
NETA says their confident neighbors won’t smell any marijuana since it’s not grown there.
