A Cave Junction man who grew medical marijuana has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for selling his crop.

The man, Raymon Sylvester, 44, was arrested in January of last year after selling 3 pounds of marijuana to a police informant for $6,300, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office announcement.

"Defendant admits he was growing marijuana under the guise of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program but illegally selling it for profit," the statement said.

The Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team arrested Sylvester and searched his home in the 6400 block of Rockydale Road, which was a grow site for five medical marijuana patients. Officers found more than 300 pounds of processed marijuana bud, along with nine guns and a money-counting machine.

Sylvester faced a recommended 46-month prison term, but Judge Owen Panner reduced the sentence to 24 months, noting that Sylvester since his arrest had made significant rehabilitation efforts by completing a drug-treatment program.
