As far as I understand, they crawl into outlets, cracks in floors, anywhere they can and hibernate. This is why it's important to clean in and around any grow area thoroughly. I personally use bleach water, one cup per gallon of water, and mop and wipe down everything before getting my flower room going again.
Sometimes I even spray flying skull, alcohol, or green clean around doorways.
