An East Helena medical marijuana advocate is refilling a proposal to make the recreational use of cannabis a constitutional right in Montana.

The constitutional initiative, proposed by Barb Trego is the first 2014 ballot question submitted to the Secretary of State's Office for approval.

It mirrors the proposal Trego submitted last year but it did not make it on this year's ballot because supporters failed to collect the required number of signatures in time.

This year, Colorado and Washington passed voter initiatives legalizing the recreational use of marijuana, giving Montana medical marijuana advocates hope despite the recent defeat of repealing Senate Bill 423.
