North Dakota: Debating Medical Benefits

House Bill 1430 approving medical marijuana is being debated. Medical Marijuana has been approved in 23 states. The concerns that have been brought up are regulations, public safety, and a so-called dangerous method to deliver prescription medication.

We live in a society where it is OK to go home after work, consume alcohol until bedtime, stop off at the tavern until closing, smoke as many cigarettes as we want, pop pain pills and sleep aids. But when we hear the word marijuana we tremble.

We have people going to the pharmacies picking up every drug imaginable for pain, nausea, sleep disorders, anxiety, nervousness, bathroom problems, depression, stress disorders,, and the list goes on because the drugs are legal.

But we fear that little green plant that has been proven to treat migraines, slow progression of Alzheimer's, slow the growth of cancerous tumors by turning off a gene called id-1, aid glaucoma sufferers, control epileptic seizures, treat depression, relieve arthritis discomfort, ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, reduce pain and nausea from chemo, help OCD sufferers, soothe tremors from Parkinson's disease and more.

Now tell me the benefits of alcohol and cigarettes. We spend more time and money trying to rid society of marijuana and its name but are willing to remove alcohol check points to get drunk drivers off the roads because they are an inconvenience. Go figure.
