North Muskegon Votes On Medical Marijuana Moratorium

North Muskegon extended its moratorium on medical marijuana businesses for another six months Monday evening.

The City Council vote was unanimous and taken without discussion of the issue. It was unclear whether this was the city's second, third or fourth moratorium. The issue last came up with a vote to extend a previous moratorium in February.

Mayor Chris Witham said the city hadn't received any requests to open dispensaries or other medical marijuana businesses within the city limits. The council wants to see what other cities try, and if their efforts succeed or fail, he said.

"I think we're trying to learn from other communities what we can do," he said. "To me we don't want to strike out on our own when there are lots of other communities working on the same thing."
