Oklahomans for Health want to raise funds for a petition drive to get medical marijuana on the ballot.

Their event (called "Free Oklahoma!") features more than 30 bands on three stages, a jupiter jump and other attractions for kids, three food trucks, and more.

The group is billing it as "the biggest anti-prohibition event in our state ever!"

Frank Grove of OFH tells KRMG it costs about $100,000 to fund a successful petition drive.

So far, he says, the group has raised about $30,000, and he feels like they're on track to have the funds they need by next year.

They're also being careful to keep everything legal and financially responsible.

"We're a 501(c)4 and we have been since April of last year," Grove said Wednesday. "We do report everything to the government accordingly, and donations to a 501(c)4 are anonymous, so the protection and privacy of our donors is of utmost importance to us."

The SoonerPoll, conducted in 2013, indicates that Oklahomans strongly support the idea of medical marijuana.
Grove says his experiences back up those findings.

"When we're out there on the streets, when we have our booths, we get much more support than negativity. And even amongst people in the state government, it's the same issue. You get a lot of support, there's very few people who are actually fighting actively against us in the state."

He says the real issue they're battling is apathy.

"Oklahomans for Health has been one of the biggest organizations as far as fighting apathy in Oklahoma. We've registered to vote tens of thousands of young people, new registers and re-registers, across the state. And I think this issue is really driving young people to become more active in politics, to understand what their civic duty is, and to learn how to be a part of the process in ways they didn't know about before.

"Most people think the political process is just going to vote every four years. They don't realize that in Oklahoma we have these methods for direct democracy available."

The Free Oklahoma! event is Sunday, September 27th from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the corner of E. 18th Street and S. Boston Avenue.
