Rainier, Oregon - Plans to open an indoor marijuana farm in Oregon got the green light, despite parents' concerns that it's too close to a park and school.

Rad Nursery Products LLC will grow roughly 1,000 marijuana plants on the property near Rainier High School's athletic fields and Hudson-Parcher Park.

Aside from the proximity to students, parents at a public hearing Monday night said they're worried about the odor that will come from the pot farm.

"It's kindergarten to seniors," parent Tara Sorenson said. "They need to worry about their education and not the smells of the football field and everything else."

Columbia County Planning Commissioners considered parents' concerns over odors produced by the facility before voting 3-2 in favor of the marijuana operation.

Rad Nursery Products President Raj Punjabi tells KOIN 6 News his company will take certain measures, like putting carbon filters in each room, to limit the smell.

Each of the 9 rooms in the facility will have 2 filters that will be changed every 3-4 months. Punjabi says he's going above and beyond what's required of him.

The facility will also have tight security with several surveillance cameras.

While the operation is perfectly legal, some parents say they still don't feel it's safe.

Punjabi says he hopes to start operations at the pot farm in the next 30 days.
