Protesters supporting marijuana activist Grant Krieger were turned
away from Calgary Correctional Centre during a rally yesterday.

After meeting at the Remand Centre, about 30 people marched 1 km to
the Calgary Correctional Centre at Spyhill, where Krieger was
transferred.

Krieger's wife, Marie, said the transfer occurred following a radio
interview publicizing the rally.

"Grant heard me on the radio and heard (DJ) Gerry Forbes say 'That
poor guy is sitting in jail for the rest of us,' " Marie said
yesterday.

Grant Krieger suffers from multiple sclerosis and has been granted
permission by the courts to cultivate and smoke cannabis for medicinal
purposes.

He was sentenced to 33 days in jail prior to the court's decision and
was not allowed to take his marijuana into the jail with him.
